Cultural News Association, non-profit for supporting Cultural News, presents its benefit concert “Celebrating Over 25th Anniversary of Cultural News – Ken Koshio Sings Songs of Showa Era (1926-1989) Concert” on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Zenshuji Soto Mission Temple in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles.
The inaugural issue of English tabloid Cultural News was printed in July 1998, and Cultural News had been issued monthly until March 2020 when the pandemic forced all social activities to shut down in the nation. But Cultural News was relaunched as an online weekly newsletter in June 2020 and is continued to until today.
Non-profit Cultural News Association was formed in 2019 to support projects by Cultural News including online publishing and community outreach to share experiences of Japanese and Japanese American heritage in Los Angeles and beyond the region.
The March 29 event is the first fundraising for $30,000 annual budget.
Arizona-based musician Ken Koshio is a singer-and-songwriter, and world renowned taiko master and player.
In Japan, official calendar is linked with emperor’s lifespan. The official Showa Era began on December 25, 1926 on the day the Taisho Emperor passed way. And the Showa Era ended on January 7, 1989 when the Showa Emperor passed away.
The year of 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the Showa Era that Japan experienced the worst and best time in modern history.

In this concert event, fire survivors and first responders of the Eaton and Palisades fires occurred on Jan. 7, 2025, are invited for free.
Artworks by Miki Yokoyama who lost her home at the Eaton Fire, will be presented in the concert venue.
This is a part of “To Connect Fire Survivors to Community” project by Cultural News to support those who lost their home and every possessions.
