(日本語あり)Last Sunday (Oct. 26, 2025), Koyasan Shingon-shu Hokubei Sokanbu and Koyasan Beikoku Betsuin of Los Angeles (LA Koyasan) jointly hold Daikokuten Daihannya Grand Goma service. Hokubei Sokanbu is the official branch of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism in North America to which the five temples authorized by the Head Temple Kongobuji belong: LA Koyasan, Sacramento Koyasan, Fresno Tenchiji, Seattle Jingoji, and Seattle Koyasan.
The auspicious service which is very rare to be conducted in America was carefully planned by Matsumoto sensei (松元先生)who is the Bishop of Sokanbu and the head priest of LA Koyasan which is the headquarters in North America, founded in 1912. This time I was honored to substitute his role as the officiant due to his absence. It was a truly meaningful experience for myself, and my disciples, Kakua and Shunkoh.
The energy of Kobo Daishi’s prayer has been ceaselessly streaming since 1200 years ago and will continue until the day all sentient beings become free from sufferings. As his humble disciples, each of us is in charge of embodying his prayer in a given time and a given place. The dharmic lineage Kobo Daishi (弘法大師)succeeded from his Dharma master, Keika Kasho(恵果和尚), in 805 in Chang’an, the capital of Tang Dynasty China, is vitally alive in 2025 in the USA. Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo.
