From The University of Texas at Austin – School of Nursing

Asian American breast cancer survivors often experience inadequate pain management due to cultural stigma, stoicism toward pain, and language barriers. Those with depressive symptoms are especially at risk, as depression can worsen pain and vice versa. To address these challenges, the team at The University of Texas, Austin, has developed CAI—a technology-based, culturally tailored web app for cancer pain management.

This program, funded by the National Cancer Institute, aims to provide flexible, accessible, and anonymous support, with special features for those experiencing depression. The CAI study will evaluate the effectiveness of this approach from September 2022 to August 2027.

CAI Study is an online cancer pain management program with individual optimization.

You may qualify if you:
- are 18 years or older.
- were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past.
- identify as Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese, or Japanese.
- have experienced pain and depressive symptoms.
