VENTURA COUNTY, CA — The Ventura County Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (Ventura County JACL) announces a special screening of the acclaimed short film “VISAS AND VIRTUE,” directed by Academy Award winner Chris Tashima. The event will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at California Lutheran University’s Preus-Brandt Forum.
“VISAS AND VIRTUE” is inspired by the true story of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat and his wife who, in Europe during 1940, courageously defied both Tokyo and Nazi authorities to issue life-saving visas to thousands of Jewish refugees. The film was honored with the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 70th Academy Awards in 1997.
The screening is hosted by Film and TV Department of California Lutheran University in cooperation with the Ventura County JACL and the City of Thousand Oaks.
This event is free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity to engage with history, humanitarianism, and cinematic excellence.
