“The Bridge: JCI Heritage Center” at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute will hold a T-Shirt Shibori workshop led by textile artist, Setsuko Hayashi, on Sunday, November 6 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Shibori is a traditional technique for tie-dyeing fabric by bundling the fabric, then dyeing it.  The result can be a white pattern on a colored ground.

Or, additional layers of color can be added by re-bundling the fabric and repeating this process until all of the desired colors are incorporated into the overall pattern.

With Ms. Hayashi’s guidance, workshop attendees will learn how to create their own designs on t-shirts using these techniques.

The workshop will be held in the JCI Nisei Veterans’ Hall, and space will be limited to 25 students.

Pre-registration required. The cost will be $20, and includes a white one-size-fits-all cotton t-shirt for students to dye.

To sign up for the workshop or for further information, please contact the JCI at info@jci-gardena.org or call (310) 324-6611.
