Santa Monica Public Library presents a film screening of We Said No! No! A Story of Civil Disobedience and a discussion on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at MLK Jr. Auditorium in Santa Monica Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
Directed by Manazanr camp prisoner Brian Maeda, We Said No! No! is a story of civil disobedience set against the backdrop of World War II and the controversial internment of thousands of “disloyal” Japanese Americans in the most notorious of all the Japanese internment camps, Tule Lake.
It was there that the Japanese American who refused to say “yes” to the infamous Loyalty Questionnaire were placed and labeled the “No, Nos.”
We Said No! No! follows the stories of a group of “disloyal” No, No’s as they fight for their freedom, their dignity and their families in an America that had forsaken them.
A discussion will be co-presented by Brian T. Maeda and the Venice Japanese American Memorial Monument Committee.
