Los Angeles, CA - Yoichi Komiyama, the founder and chairman of the Los Angeles-based lifestyle information magazine "Lighthouse," passed away on September 8, 2025, at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. The cause of death was organ failure due to lymphoma. He was 59 years old.

Born in 1965 in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, Komiyama graduated from the National Institute of Technology (Kosen) Yuge College. His passion for the blue skies and free-spirited culture of Los Angeles was ignited during a one-year maritime training voyage on the training ships Nippon Maru and Taisei Maru in 1986. This experience led him to move to the United States upon graduation.

After initially running a cram school, Komiyama founded the Japanese-language information magazine "Lighthouse" in 1989. Under his leadership, Lighthouse (TAKUYO CORPORATION) expanded its headquarters in Torrance, California, with branches in San Diego and Seattle. The magazine became a trusted source of information for the Japanese community in the United States. In 2016, Komiyama completed a master's program in business administration at the Graduate School of Business Breakthrough University. He also served as vice president of the Overseas Japanese Newspaper and Broadcasting Association.

A funeral service for Komiyama will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Zenshuji Soto Mission, located at 123 South Hewitt St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. Attendees may offer incense at any time during this period. Seating capacity is limited, and no RSVP is required.
