Phone (213) 341-1951. Ramen lovers and food enthusiasts can now experience the signature thick, flavorful Kotteri broth that has captivated fans across Japan for over 50 years.
Located at 333 E. 1st Street, former Sake Dojo venue, Tenkaippin Little Tokyo opens Sunday through Thursday from 11:00am to 12:00am, and Friday and Saturday from 11:00am to 2:00am. Guests are invited to discover why Tenkaippin’s Kotteri ramen stands out among Japanese cuisine, offering a taste that is both shockingly rich and deeply satisfying.
The story of Tenkaippin began in Kyoto in 1971, when founder Tsutomu Kimura, facing personal hardship, created the first true Kotteri ramen at his yatai or mobile kitchen. Inspired by a doctor’s advice to eat chicken for health, Kimura developed a unique, full-bodied chicken-based broth after months of experimentation. The result was a ramen so distinctive that “Kotteri” became synonymous with Tenkaippin’s legendary soup.
Today, Tenkaippin boasts over 200 restaurants throughout Japan, with devoted fans traveling from all over the country to enjoy its signature ramen. The Los Angeles opening marks a new chapter in Tenkaippin’s history, bringing authentic Kotteri ramen to American diners for the first time.
