Shusse Inari New Year's Day

LOS ANGELES CA — The Shinto Shrine of Shusse Inari in America is seeking passionate volunteers for its upcoming New Year’s event at Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. This unique opportunity invites community members to experience and learn about Shinto traditions firsthand, as New Year’s Day is a significant occasion in Shinto culture.

The on-site shrine event requires many hands to ensure its success. Volunteers are needed for various roles across three days:

  • December 31st (Pre-event): At least 2 more volunteers are needed for loading and preparation.
  • January 1st (Event Day): At least 7 more volunteers are needed for event setup, general support, assisting the priest, and end-of-day wrap-up.
  • January 2nd (Post-event): At least 2 more volunteers are needed for load-out and clean-up.

This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking community service hours for school, college, or work.

Volunteers may participate in the ceremony and are encouraged to stay until its conclusion.

All-day volunteers are welcome, but shifts are available for those unable to commit to the full day. Transportation and accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the volunteer.

Individuals interested in becoming a Miko or Priest’s assistant must participate in the volunteer activities they sign up for and complete training under the guidance of Rev. Izumi.

All Shinto items contain Kami-sama (spirits) and must be handled respectfully under the priest’s supervision.

Volunteering at this event is a rare chance to immerse yourself in Shinto and Japanese culture.
