9/15: In memory of Azuma Sumako II, Azuma Kotobuki Kai to hold tribute performance at Armstrong Theater in Torrance on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 1:00-2:15PM
The Azuma Kotobuki Kai will be holding a tribute performance in memory of their late sensei, Azuma Sumako II on Sunday, September 15, 2024, 1:00 – 2:15pm at the James Armstrong Theater in Torrance,
Azuma Sumako II – a talented performer, choreographer and instructor – passed away in July 2020, but due to the public health conditions of that time, her students decided to create a tribute for her in a later year.
This event will highlight Sumako’s choreography and will include performance numbers by thirteen natori and a few students, memorial messages from the Azuma Sōke (Grand Master) and Iemoto (Head Master) from Japan, and accompaniment by the Tōgen Daiko taiko group.
A short reception will follow.
Admission is free. Sumako’s family, friends, students, fellow Nihon Buyō instructors, and many leaders in the Southern California Japanese American community have already been invited and will be attending.
