2024/2/24 / Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute to present Day of Remembrance under the theme of “Terminal Island: Lost But Not Forgotten” Feb. 24, 2-4PM

The Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI) presents “GVJCI Day of Remembrance 2024” on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at GVJCI Hall, 1964 W. 162nd Street, Gardena, CA 90247.

“Terminal Island: Lost But Not Forgotten” is the theme of the 2024 Day of Remembrance program.

GVJCI 2024 Day of Remembrance will highlight the history and stories of the Japanese American fishing village community of Terminal Island in San Pedro during WWII.

In a live in-person program, the GVJCI will feature a documentary film about the history of Terminal Island followed by a panel discussion featuring Michael Enomoto, architect of the San Pedro Terminal Island Japanese Fishing Village Memorial, June Miyamoto Donovan, president of the Terminal Islander’s Club, and David Metzler, director of the documentary in the program.

Edgar Award-winning author Naomi Hirahara will moderate the panel discussion and Q&A.
