“An Afternoon of Japanese Dance” will be featuring seven dances representing two styles of classical dance music, Nagauta and Kiyomoto.

North High School Performing Arts Center is located at 3620 W. 182nd Street, Torrance, CA 90504. The entrance to the Performing Arts Center is on Yukon Avenue between 182nd Street and 185th Street. Free parking is available.

Nihon Buyo Kai (NBK) was established by the students of the late dance master Mme. Bando Mitsuhiro in 2012 to preserve, promote and present Japanese classical and traditional dance forms.

The purposes of the NBK are also to enhance knowledge of these dances forms through lecture, narration, and demonstration, and to share the history, culture and significance of the dance and its music.

NBK’s first presentation was in 2016, and annual presentations were held in-person until the pandemic, which resulted in virtual presentations until this year.

Past in-person programs have featured guest artists from Japan such as a skilled artist in Japanese wig-styling, a professional stage assistant (koken) who provided a lecture/demonstration, and shamisen (three-stringed instrument) performers who accompanied dancers.
